Why this is the thing that stalls people
Nobody enrols expecting the hardest part to be finding a stranger willing to sign a form. But schools hand the search to the student, clinics get dozens of the same email a month, and the ones who do say yes are usually already supervising somebody. So you send forty messages, hear back from three, and lose a term.
The search is a numbers game with a technique behind it, and it rewards people who do it full time. That's the actual service here. Somebody in the study group who already knows which practices in your county take students, who to ask for by name, and what to put in the first two lines so the email gets read at all.

The backup site is the whole point
Placements fall over for reasons that have nothing to do with you. A preceptor changes jobs, a clinic pauses students for a quarter, someone goes on leave in week three. If that happens and there's no second option, you've lost the term, not the week.
So we don't stop searching when the first yes arrives. A second site stays warm in the background for the length of your rotation, and if the first one collapses you move across in days. It's the least visible part of this job and the one that saves the most terms.
What you do, and what we do
The line here is bright and it doesn't move. You attend. You practise. You are supervised, and the hours in your log are hours you personally worked. Nobody can do a clinical rotation for you, and any service implying otherwise is going to end your program rather than finish it.
Everything around that is ours. The searching, the chasing, the forms, the follow-up when a coordinator stops replying, and the paperwork the school wants at the end. If your coursework needs picking up while the rotation runs, that's handled separately so the two aren't fighting each other for your evenings.

Questions people actually ask
What is a realistic timeline for a preceptor?
Weeks rather than months in most specialties, and we start the day you say go. Rural counties and psychiatric rotations run longer simply because there are fewer qualified people, and you'll be told that honestly at the quote rather than three weeks in. What you get throughout is the actual list of who has been contacted and what they said.
Do you cover my state?
All fifty. The search starts inside a reasonable distance of you and widens from there until it's solved, and where your school allows telehealth or hybrid hours that opens the field considerably. Licensure and supervision rules differ by state, so the search is built around what your program and your board will actually accept.
Can you log my hours for me?
We keep the record current and correctly formatted, including in Meditrek where your school uses it, and we chase the signatures that make it count. What we will not do is enter hours you did not personally work. Those hours are yours, they are the point of the rotation, and falsifying them ends programs. That line does not move.
My site just cancelled. Can you help now?
Yes, and this is the most common reason people write to us. Send the specialty, how many hours are outstanding and your school's deadline, and the search starts immediately. Because a second site is kept warm for our own students, a mid-rotation collapse is usually a matter of days rather than a lost term.
Is this connected to my university?
No. NPGrads is independent, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any university. We work with your school's own forms and processes because that's what gets a rotation approved, but nobody here contacts your program on your behalf without you knowing exactly what is being sent and to whom.
