How ACE actually works

How long is a term?

Five weeks, which is comfortable in July and punishing during the first month of a school year or through report card season. Because almost everybody in these programs teaches full time, the program calendar and the working calendar collide predictably, and planning around the year you actually work matters more than any study technique.

What is a signature assignment?

The principal piece in each course, judged against professional teaching standards rather than ordinary essay criteria. Because those standards originate outside the course, a paper can be well written and still lose marks for never demonstrating one explicitly. Addressing each standard visibly, under its own heading, is what the assessment is looking for.

What is the Dissertation in Practice?

A doctoral study built around a problem inside a working setting. It applies an intervention supported by existing research and then reports what measurably shifted as a result. The contribution is the improvement itself, and the work proceeds from prospectus through chapters to an oral defense.

How is that different from a PhD dissertation?

A traditional dissertation has to produce knowledge that did not previously exist, supported by a method that survives interrogation. A practice dissertation applies established evidence and measures the result. Submitting one where the other is expected gets returned regardless of quality, which is the most expensive mistake available in a practice doctorate.

Which citation style is used?

APA, inspected closely rather than treated as presentation. The seventh edition changed several visible conventions without much announcement, and marks vanish into them: how many authors are listed before an ampersand, the format each heading level takes, and the circumstances under which a reference carries a retrieval date.
