How Herzing actually works

How long are the courses?

Eight weeks, compressed on purpose so that working nurses can complete a degree inside a reasonable period. What compression costs is density. Each week holds close to double the content of a conventional semester week, and the schedule contains no slack anywhere that a bad week could be absorbed into.

What clinical paperwork is required?

An affiliation agreement between your school and the site, an hour log kept in whatever format the program specifies, and a closing evaluation signed by your preceptor. None of it is intellectually demanding. All of it waits on other people's availability, which is why placement problems delay terms whose coursework is entirely on track.

What is a SOAP note?

A structured clinical note in four parts: what the patient tells you, what you measure and observe, what you conclude from the two, and what you propose to do next. Marks turn on whether the proposal genuinely follows from the section above it, so the weakness is nearly always at that junction rather than in the prose.

How much work is there each week?

Spread out rather than concentrated. A typical week holds discussion work, a quiz, a short written assignment and clinical documentation, everything due together and nothing individually large. What makes it demanding is the simultaneity rather than the difficulty of any single piece.

What happens if I fall behind?

Recovery goes better in weight order than in date order. Establish which outstanding items still carry enough marks to alter the result, rebuild the plan around those, and accept that some low-value work is simply gone. In a compressed format the arithmetic is unforgiving, though it takes only a few minutes to work out.
