the part that stalls terms

Preceptor search help

Somewhere in the brochure it said clinical placement was your responsibility. Nobody mentioned it would mean cold-emailing strangers for six weeks between shifts. Tell us the specialty and the county and we'll start today.

Why your emails are not being answered

Because a busy practice receives the same message several times a month, from students it has never met, asking for several hundred unpaid hours of supervision. Almost all of those messages open by explaining the sender's program, which is the part the reader cares about least.

The ones that get answered are short, say what specialty and how many hours in the first line, name a specific person, and make it easy to say yes. They also arrive after somebody has checked whether that practice takes students at all, which removes most of the forty. It is a technique rather than luck, and it is why doing this full time works better than doing it between shifts.

The second site is not optional

Placements fall through for reasons entirely unconnected to you. A preceptor takes a new job, a practice pauses students for a quarter, somebody goes on leave in week three of your rotation. If nothing is behind them, that costs a term rather than a fortnight.

So searching does not stop when the first yes arrives. A second option stays warm for the length of your rotation, and if the first collapses you move across in days. It is the least visible part of this and the part that saves the most programs. Ask anyone who has lost a semester to a preceptor who changed jobs.

Where it gets harder, honestly

Psychiatric mental health rotations take longer, because there are fewer qualified preceptors and the ones who exist are in demand. Rural counties take longer for the obvious reason. Some states impose supervision rules that narrow the field considerably.

None of that makes a placement impossible and all of it changes the timeline, so you will be told at the quote rather than discovered in week four. Where your program permits telehealth or hybrid hours, the field widens substantially and that gets explored early. The approach itself is published here if you would rather run the search yourself.

The hours stay yours

This needs saying plainly because people ask. You attend. You practise. You are supervised. The hours recorded in your log are hours you personally worked, and nothing about that is negotiable at any price, because a falsified clinical record ends nursing programs and reaches licensing boards.

Everything around it is ours: the search, the introduction, the agreement, the record-keeping, the chasing. If the coursework is also slipping while you spend evenings on this, the full placement service covers both sides so they stop competing for the same hours.

Questions people actually ask

How long will it take?

Weeks rather than months for most specialties, starting the day you say go. Psychiatric rotations and rural counties run longer simply because fewer qualified preceptors exist, and you'll hear that at the quote rather than in week four. Throughout, you see the actual list of who was contacted and what they said.

Do you work in my state?

All fifty. Searching begins within a sensible distance of you and widens until it's solved. Supervision and licensure rules vary by state, so the search is shaped around what your board and your program will actually accept, and where your school permits telehealth or hybrid hours the field opens up considerably.

My preceptor just pulled out mid-rotation.

Send it today. Because a second site is kept warm for every student here, a mid-rotation collapse is usually resolved in days rather than costing a term. Include your specialty, the hours still outstanding and your program's deadline, and outreach starts immediately rather than after a quote conversation.

Can you sign the agreement for me?

No. The agreement is between your school and the site, and both signatures have to be genuine. What we do is get the right document to the right person, explain what your program needs, chase both sides until it's executed, and make sure nothing sits in an inbox for three weeks because nobody knew whose turn it was.

Is it cheaper to search myself?

In money, yes, and the method is published on this site for free precisely so you can. What you're actually buying is time and a database: knowing which practices in your county already take students removes most of the dead emails. If you have the evenings, run it yourself. If you don't, that's what this is for.
