Live weekly sessions are fine if your week is predictable. If you work nights, rotate shifts or have children, they are the single most stressful thing in the program, and the anxiety is worse than the work: you sit through a shift knowing you are missing something that counts.
There is a designed way through this, and most students underuse it. Missing a session is not the same as losing the marks, provided the alternative work is done properly and on time. There is no spare week in a ten-week term
Nothing in the calendar absorbs a bad fortnight. Lose two weeks to a rotation change or a sick child and a fifth of the course has gone, which in practice means units eight, nine and ten stack up on each other while the capstone piece is also coming due.
So the whole term goes on one page in unit one and everything is dated backwards from the final submission. The quiet units get made to carry some of the load from the loud ones, which is the only real defence a compressed term allows. Most Purdue Global emergencies were visible in unit two and nobody looked.
Fitting this around a full shift pattern
A large share of these students are nurses finishing a degree around a job that already exhausts them. The coursework is not usually the problem. The problem is that the program assumes evenings you do not have, and every week you fall slightly further behind while feeling like you are working constantly.
The realistic fix is to hand over the layer that teaches you nothing and keep the layer that does. For most people that means the weekly boards and small assignments go, while the clinical writing and the capstone stay yours. It costs less than handing over a whole course and it leaves you standing in the material you actually enrolled for.
The capstone units arrive faster than you expect
In a ten-week term the final project is effectively due in unit eight, because unit nine is for revision and unit ten is for submission. Students plan around the closing date and discover the real working deadline is a fortnight earlier than that.
Yours gets planned backwards from the actual submission and broken into pieces small enough to finish in a sitting, so the last fortnight is checking rather than writing. Longer capstones and doctoral work get picked up by capstone coaching instead. Can you attend the seminar for me?
